I like drawing live in front of people. I like to draw on a large scale- 60x60cim and with an easel. I use pencil mostly, but sometimes I add touches of coloured pencil. In the past I have worked in watercolour and painted street scenes and I have also worked in oils, but none of this has the immediacy and spontaneity of working live and just in pencil.
I suppose I am interested in people and their moods. I like to draw people doing stuff, whether sitting bored, on a train, or playing pool, or practising boxing, I like action scenes and I like drawing them.
I am interested in drawing people who may not be anyone and who might be written off as 鈥榶obs鈥 or 鈥榳asters鈥 but I like to depict them with all the dignity I can give them, which a pencil drawing can do, and which a camera doesn鈥檛 seem quite as able to do. In this way, I suppose, I am challenging preconceived ideas about people.
