Artist Of The Month For December 2021: Emily Klima
An intense mixture of textual-graphics, mixed media, colours, lines, and concepts within a consolidated frame, Emily Klima鈥檚 artworks highlight her pure and reverberating energy. Harbouring a subtle process, Klima shares, 鈥淚 start out with an idea, and it rarely ends up like what I had imagined.鈥
Having trained in Graphic design at Boston University, School of Fine Art, Klima initially worked at reputed fashion publications like GQ, Harper, among others. Eventually, as her zeal would have it, she shifted her attention to abstract art; to paint what her moment called upon. Innately conscientious, Klima鈥檚 artworks are signatures of the present moment and not derived from a pre-conceived plan. Spontaneous and lively, each colour or line or imagery from a collage does not speak loud but hum the nature of the precious moment that just passed away.
Klima鈥檚 process was not to use what she had learned rather to totally defy it persistently and with awareness. She confesses, 鈥淚 am a creative vessel that thrives on emotion and change.鈥 Every painting is a patient procession towards letting go that has been accumulated, letting go of the control that we levy on ourselves. Embedding freedom into her expressions, they are active means to decode the movement and tension between order and chaos.
After a successful and reputed career in graphic design, Klima has exhibited her abstract paintings at several international art galleries. She is the founder of The Artists Halo, an artists鈥 community to disrupt the hegemonic socio-political discourses.
